Join us at Print St. Pete Community Letterpress for an Intro to Book Structures workshop, Sunday April 22nd, 2018 from 2pm-4pm. In this 2-hour workshop, instructors Bridget Elmer and Kaitlin Crockett will provide students with an introduction to handmade book structures.
Topics covered include:
- The basics of paper including grain, folding properties, weight, texture, finish & color, as well as how to select the appropriate paper based on your project.
- The basics of binding tools including bone folders, awls, needles, book thread, x-acto knives, scoring boards, cutting mats, paper knives, book cradles, book press, etc.
- How to make 3 basic book structures including one-page books, pamphlet stitch, and accordion books. As we create the different book structures, we will explore the possibilities of each form, including content and structural elements.
Students will also have the opportunity to browse our growing collection of artists books for inspiration. By the end of this class, students will have the skills to create their own handmade book structures. This class is perfect for writers, artists, illustrators, zine makers, and book enthusiasts. $45 - includes paper & tools. Limited seating.
